Dr Peter Binks has been CEO of the Business Higher Education Round Table (BHERT) since early 2017. He leads a small team supporting and advocating for industry-university collaboration in Australia.

 

Peter was trained as a scientist and gained a PhD in astrophysics at Oxford University while on a Rhodes Scholarship. He worked at McKinsey & Company, BHP Pty Ltd, Telstra Corporation, and was the inaugural CEO of start-up Nanotechnology Victoria. He was CEO at the John Monash Foundation for 5 years. He also had short spells leading the Wade Institute for Entrepreneurship, and the Garnett Passe & Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation, and has consulted with Dandolo Partners.

 

Peter was on the Board of listed technology company CFCL for 5 years, chairing the Technical Committee, and on the Scientific Advisory Board of the defence laboratories DSTO for 3 years.  He was Chairman of ANT Energy Solutions in 2017-18. His external activities currently include:

  • Chairman of MedTech startup Smileyscope Pty Ltd 

  • Director on the Advisory Board of education venture In2science 

  • Member of the Fundraising Advisory Committee of the Centre for Policy Development (CPD), an Australian policy think tank

Jeanette has 25 years’ experience working on medical and healthcare-related technology programs. After completing her doctorate in point-of-care diagnostics for the early detection of cardiac markers (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK) and a short spell as a post-doctoral researcher, Jeanette moved into the biotechnology industry as a product developer and project manager. Since relocating to Melbourne in 2006, Jeanette has managed and led a number of complex cross-sector initiatives, such as the development of targeted nanoreagents for medical imaging, brain-machine interfaces for vision restoration and point-of-care infectious disease diagnostics, in all cases working with internationally renowned clinical specialists, engineers and biomedical scientists. 

 

Jeanette is currently the CEO of the Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation, a charitable organisation that funds the medical speciality of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Since 2015 she has been an expert peer reviewer (commercialisation) for the NHMRC Development Grant program and also sits on the Advisory Board for the ARC Centre of Excellence in Integrative Brain Function.

Starting his career at the bedside in clinical pharmacy, Adam has worked across vast aspects of the health landscape through his career, ranging from discovery and product development through to commercialisation and product life-cycle management, with a wide array of Business Development & Licensing experience, including acquisition as well as integration projects.


A ‘system approach’ has provided an appreciation for the different paths patients may take through sickness, as well as the large number of other people involved in influencing this journey, with a special interest in applying the trajectory of ‘mega-trends’ and emergent technologies to the lives of patients and their families & carers alike. With a passion for empowering convergence, Adam drives capability transformation by identifying emerging trends & collaborating with thought leaders to put local innovation on the global stage (in healthcare, technology and beyond). A key contributor to ANDHealth (Australia’s only evidence-based digital health accelerator) and Business Council of Australia’s “Innovation Nation” initiative, Adam is also guiding ex-industry partners on their impact on life quality, as well as mentoring start-ups on how to succeed in healthcare.


Adam is Head of Innovation & Strategy at Novartis Australia, responsible for shaping future innovative growth opportunities, both from internal product development pipeline and diverse fields of novel research with external partners globally.

Phil is a digital leader with 20+ years experience leading teams across a broad range of sectors including health, banking, telecommunications, and education, with a primary focus on strategy and user-centred design. He is presently an Executive Director at Arq Group, an organisation providing services across Cloud, Data & Analytics and Digital for some of Australia's most prominent companies.

 

His more recent roles involved management of the team delivering qantas.com on the Adobe suite of tools, as well as leading full-service digital agencies with a focus on mobility, innovation and emerging technologies.
